Hi all,

This board is intended to be a background for my fantasy world of Arcandor.

Therefore, this board is Admin-only – and I am the only admin.

Queries can be directed to me in the Discussion Forum.

Anyhow, the next post will be continually updated as new information is thought up.

From the Chronicles of History

The Making of the Gods

It is said that in the faraway mists of Time… before the world was made…..
The Oldest Ones roamed the planes of existence. Not gods, but greater than gods, they fought each other in an endless war, constantly remaking and destroying and rebuilding the fabric of the universe itself. This pointless clash continued for eons and eons – until the Last and Strongest of the Eldest, Vanyatar, cast his brethren down into the Void Beyond and restored Order to existence.

This Order came at a cost, however. For reality had been destroyed in the Great Reordering, and so Vanyatar made it anew – weaving his own Being into Creation – the Second Making. But he possessed not the combined power of the other Ones, and while they together could make universes, he could merely create a single world. But that was enough. Destroying all else, he wove a great portion of his power into a single planet – the World - and it was from this Power that magic sprung.

To govern the Aspects of his Creation, the One Above All appointed Guardians – lesser Deities, to whom he granted as much power as they needed to govern His World. Their power too sprung from Magic – they were powerful, but they were linked to the fabric of the World, and if the World died, they too would perish.

The First People

For the Guardians to rule, and for his pleasure, Vanyatar made the Elves – the First People, in his image. For Freedom pleased him- it was for freedom that he fought his brethren, seeing the pointlessness and brutality in their struggle. So, he gave the gift of Life to the First People – they would be able to choose their way in the World. However, because He loved them dearly, he also made it so that none of the First People would pass from the World until He had ordained it – for Vanyatar had the Book of Fate in his hands, and it was He that controlled the Threads that link all beings together.
So the Second Making ended, and the World was good.

The Guardians of the World – The Lesser Gods

The Gods that Vanyatar had made were, like the elves, also free, possessing the will to make their own choices, but with a difference – they were not bound by the Threads of Fate, and thus Vanyatar’s hold over them was weaker than it was on the First People. However, this did not cause any concern for him at first, for the Guardians were all fiercely loyal to him, their creator and Lord… or so he thought.

The Guardians of the World

Here follows a list of the Guardians of the World. Though not as powerful as the One Above All, They nonetheless have power far beyond even the mightiest of the Peoples of the World. They cannot be destroyed, any more than fire or water can be killed. For They are the living Embodiments of the aspects of Vanyatar’s Creation, and are as enduring and everlasting as the World itself.

Loban

The Great Smith, Fiery Reckoner, the Scourge of the Enemies of the One Above All. Loban, the God of Fire, Forging and War. His is the spark that both lights the forge and burns cities to the ground. His is the blade that both destroys the wheat and harvests it. Often appearing as a middle aged, bearded man of imposing height, wearing plate leggings but with a bare chest, he holds a hammer in one hand and a sword in the other. His eyes hold a fire that is said to burn the very hearts of his enemies. Loyalest of his brothers and sisters, he is the strongest in combat , and quick of temper and disposition - but often his decisions fall short of his power because of his passion. He appreciates the brave of heart, however, and is good to those who are loyal to him. He had a hand in the creation of the Second People, the Dwarves, imbuing them with a passion for crafting and smithing after himself - and it is said that he is greatly favors them. Patron god of blacksmiths, warriors, inventors. His domain covers all that has to do with Fire, War, Crafting, Smithing and Metal.

Rismak

The Lord of the Seas and the Skies, He who Shatters the Heavens and Stirs the Oceans, Rismak the Mariner. Twin to Loban, Rismak is the God of the Seas and the Skies, Water and Ice, Lightning and Thunder. Though sometimes as quick to wrath as the oceans, which one day are fair and the next are in a raging turmoil, mostly he is calm as the lapping of the surf on the sands; he created all life that lives in the seas. As loyal as Loban to the One Above All, but he is less warlike, preferring to resolve issues by simply waiting them out. However, when his wrath is aroused, he treats the offenders mercilessly, becoming as cold as the eternal frost in the northmost regions of the World. He is often shown as an older man, grizzled with hardship but with a spark of life in his eyes. In one hand, he holds his scepter, in the other, the rod with which he directs the nature of the skies. His left hand is made of water, a token of his colossal battle with Mirek, the Fallen God. Patron god of mariners, shipwrights, fishermen. His domain covers all that has to do with the Sea, Water, Ice, and the Weather.
